The WHY Behind Cache_Seven

Watching his New York City kid show a penchant for rock climbing in the surprisingly solid bouldering scene in Central Park, Kevin wanted to “fan that flame.” And so to the Tetons they went—what better place to jump right in? “We worked with a guide for a few days, doing something we had never done. Climbing at that level was completely outside of our comfort zones. In the Tetons, the consequences for bad decisions are real. One day, some serious weather rolled in, and I realized that if it's just me and my son hanging off of this mountain, things could get real very quickly. But our guide stayed calm and helped us embrace the situation—helped us feel prepared and competent. The guide showed us how to make good decisions in a high stakes environment. It was a great lesson in managing risk as well as a first-hand testament to the value of seeking out that professional who can translate that world for you and invite you in.”

For Kevin, that moment was revelatory. And each guided experience he has had since has delivered. “Guides open up worlds, and often worlds that have real consequences. So, while inviting you in, they are also teaching you the ways of that world—teaching you to bring the presence of mind to pay attention. Giving you a baseline of knowledge that, if you’re willing, you can build upon to explore that world further.”

The WHAT of Cache_Seven

Outdoor experiences like this one—on rivers, in the mountains, and on oceans—led Kevin to the founding of Cache_Seven, a platform that brings outdoor professionals together with adventurers of all experience levels. Kevin says, "Our platform covers multiple activities including hiking, cycling, climbing, fishing and water sports like kiting, kayaking, and surfing." C7 helps adventurers take the first steps in planning an excursion. C7 also elevates the efficiency of trip planning, a definite bonus. "We introduce adventure-seeking or adventure-savvy clients to pros in the field with deep expertise and knowledge in the client's chosen adventure and location of interest." And because an adventure is always better when you're prepared, C7 makes it easy for guides to build out C7 gear lists—known as the guide's "cache." Kevin says, "The Cache_Seven website is a one-stop shop for adventurers to connect with a guide, drill down on the adventure, and gear up based on that guide's recommendations. We are all about "arriving ready."

One side of Cache_Seven coin is geared to the adventure traveler. The other side of the C7 is for the pros. "One central aspect of our mission revolves around supporting the guiding community." says Kevin. "Guides are the center of the outdoor ecosystem and their knowledge and experience are super valuable. We have an affiliate marketing network of thousands of brands that the guides trust and use. If visitors to our site make purchases off of a pro's gear list, then the pro receives a cut of that transaction." A win-win for sure.

Based in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, C7 currently has pros all over North America and some in Europe signed on as partners. Kevin says, "We hope to become a truly global platform over time and feel that there is a tremendous demand for access to foreign pros. We are currently onboarding guides and guiding services around the world. Adventurers tend to have an idea about how to coordinate local trips, but often have no idea where to start when the trip involves new destinations or different countries. That's where C7 comes in."
