Big Sky Backcountry Guides

About

Drew has lived and skied in Bozeman for 24 years, and in addition to founding Big Sky Backcountry Guides & Bell Lake Yurt in 2013, is former editor-in-chief of Backcountry Magazine, managing editor at Skiing Magazine, and an award-winning freelance writer and photographer for dozens of other publications, anthologies, and books. He has served on the board of American Avalanche Association (A3) for nearly a decade, and is passionate about avalanche education and research. Ski mountaineering has led him around the world--to the ultra-remote Torngat Mountains in Labrador, the Yukon's Tombstone Range, Arctic Norway, the volcanoes of Ecuador and the Chilean Andes, Iceland, Alaska (Denali, the Boundary Range, and elsewhere), and all over the continental U.S. Drew loves guiding as much as he loves skiing, and looks forward to sharing some incredible mountain experiences with you.

Backcountry Ski/Ride Weeks at Bell Lake Yurt
Eight skiers. Two guides. 14,000 exclusive acres of terrain covered in deep, backcountry powder. At BSBG's annual Backcountry Ski/Ride Weeks, it's all about exploring epic terrain, enjoying great food, making new friends, and having peak experiences. You’ll get a fully guided and catered trip to Bell Lake Yurt with no strings attached--no minimum group size, no planning, and no stress. Come alone or with friends—all you need is an appetite for the backcountry, and we'll take care of the rest.

For four full days and three nights, you'll be part of a small group of skiers and riders from around the world, touring amongst and atop remote, 10,000-foot peaks, and diving into Montana’s famous cold smoke powder—it doesn’t get much better!
At BSBG, we take care of everything—guiding you into the best snow and terrain, cooking delicious meals, and providing an incredible standard of care and service—giving you time to relax and enjoy every moment.

Two private guides ensure flexibility—during the day we can ski together or split into two groups based on ability and goals. And after surfing powder all day, the fun continues with uniquely Montana cuisine such as bison curry and elk bolognese. Enjoy a glass of wine while the woodstove crackles, play a game with friends, or curl up on a memory foam mattress and take in the stars through the yurt's 5-foot diameter skylight. Our philosophy is that every element of your trip should combine to produce an experience you'll never forget.
