Britni Johnson
About
A native of the Chicago-area flatlands, Britni originally grew up frolicking in cornfields and dreaming of becoming the next Mia Hamm. After her childhood soccer glory days came to pass, it was on to Big Ten athletics where she walked-on to the Michigan State University Varsity Women’s Rowing team. Four years later and ever eager for the next adventure, Britni packed her bags and headed to Colorado. She was instantly smitten by the mountain-town lifestyle, and quickly acquired a number of new passions (including learning to ski at the age of 23).
As is the case with most Yampa Valley transplants, her love for the mountains runs about as deep as her love for adventure. Since moving west more than a decade ago, she’s worn a number of hats (both past and present) which seems like a fitting compliment to the diverse, vibrant, non-linear, and exceedingly active lifestyle that has come to define much of her being: D1 athlete, foreign affairs intern, trail crew leader, AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer, ski school instructor, skier, climber, mountain biker, trail-runner, yogi, nanny, waitress, farmer, master gardener, bartender, search and rescue member, avalanche education instructor, and most recently, a certified holistic nutritionist, entrepreneur, and soon-to-be certified personal trainer.
Her path thus far has undoubtedly been characterized by equal parts passion, perseverance, and a healthy dose of serendipity. Where the next decade may lead remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain: she finds her deepest sense of joy, gratitude, connection, and contentment amid the ever-humbling high mountain peaks, living out (and sharing) as many of her days as possible in and among them (on snow, or otherwise), with other adventure-inspired souls!
“Find a way of life you love, and have the courage to live it.”
Activities
Backcountry Ski and Splitboard Touring
Steamboat Springs, CO
Backcountry ski and splitboard touring is now one of the fastest-growing activities in the winter snow sports industry. As the technology of climbing skins, AT, randonee gear, and splitboards have evolved, the world of uphill skinning and hiking to earn your powder turns has become more and more popular. Come join us to see for yourself why backcountry ski and splitboarding is becoming such a cherished experience.
Our human powered tours are a great escape from the crowds you may find at ski areas or other popular areas. All of these tours are private, where we work with 1 trip leader, and are limited to up to 4 guests with a single guide. If you are bringing more than 4 people, we would add in an additional guide to the group.
This is a very custom experience, one that we will refine with you to maximize whatever your ability level, fitness, or past backcountry skills may be. From the never ever backcountry skier to the more advanced, we will set a custom tour plan with you and work to achieve your goals with this experience.
During the day, we utilize a snowmobile or even a snowcat to bump you and your crew up into the terrain. Once up high, we park the machine and carry out the day earning our turns. Depending on experience and fitness levels we we will take 3-6 runs, transitioning from ski to hike mode many times, averaging 1500-3000 feet of ascent during the day.
