Mike was born and raised on the west slopes of the Tetons in Driggs, Idaho. Despite skiing in bounds at Grand Targhee since he was three years old, he never thought to venture into the backcountry until he moved to the Salt Lake City for college. There, he took full advantage of the access that the Wasatch offered and slowly ticked off a number of local classics. Eventually he moved back home to the Tetons where he now spends his winters ski guiding and teaching avalanche courses for Jackson Hole Mountain Guides.
