About
For every rule there is an exception, and Peter Croft is an exceptional individual who has successfully combined decades of climbing and guiding experience with a prolific personal career as climbing athlete. Peter was born in Canada but moved to California to pursue a life in the sun. He currently lives in Bishop with his wife Karine. In 1987 Croft blazed his way into the scene by free soloing Astroman and the Rostrum in a day – two Yosemite climbs that remain test pieces to this day (for roped climbers!) and he has become one of the great climbing athletes of our time. He received the American Alpine Club’s Robert & Miriam Underhill Award in 1991. Since then, he has remained in the spotlight by soloing enormous ridgeline traverses, such as the Evolution Traverse, the Minaret Traverse, and the enchainment of four Celestial Arêtes on Temple Crag in a day. He continues to establish 5.13 climbs in the Eastern Sierra, as well as hard high country traditional rock climbs. Along with many articles and essays, he has written a couple climbing guidebooks and recently a “how to” book co-authored with John Long. Peter has an unmatched enthusiasm for the activity and lifestyle of rock climbing and he loves to share it with everyone out to achieve their own climbing goals. His passion for people and the climbing environment is infectious which make him a naturally talented rock guide and instructor. Sierra Mountain Guides is proud to present the world with an opportunity to rock climb with a true master of stone, in an overall quality of experience that fully lives up to SMG’s highest guiding standards.
