Telluride's Via Ferrata
Telluride's Via Ferrata, "Iron Way", is truly unique. It emerged from the wild mind and unrelenting hands of a local legend. Charles Frederick “Chuck” Kroger was a pioneering climber, ultra runner, cyclist, master craftsman, and mountain renaissance man who left this world too soon. His creation is a series of narrow hiking paths and rugged iron ladder stairs welded into a conglomerate cliff towering above the town of Telluride. Climbers secure themselves into a metal cable that runs along the face of the rock, enjoying breathtaking exposure and spectacular views. This 4.8 mile loop involves some trail sections, without cable, that are narrow and exposed. Your guide can add peace of mind and additional security with a variety of rope systems. While no previous experience is required, a moderate level of fitness is a must.

This route is the result of the hard work and vision of locals at Friends of the Ouray Via Ferrata. 14'ers & Technical Summits
~Wilson Peak
At 14,017 feet, Wilson Peak offers a challenging climb and stunning views. Famed and fabled as the “Coors Can Peak”, it is often featured in photos due to its prominence from the Lizard Head trail. Wilson Peak is accessible from a variety of routes, each offering a different scenic view of the range.
~Mt. Wilson
Not to be confused with Wilson Peak, Mt. Wilson is the highest in Dolores county. Located in the center of the massif between Gladstone and El Diente, it is rugged with multiple permanent snowfields on various faces. Due to its location, much of the peak is not visible until you’re already making the ascent. Mt. Wilson is reclusive, testy, and challenging. However, the panoramic vistas and engaging terrain are sure to stoke the adventure fire.
~El Diente
With a name that means “The Tooth” in Spanish, anyone who climbs El Diente will definitely say that they’ve climbed a jagged summit. Big views of the Wilson group and desert ramparts below are well worth the effort to gain this lofty beast.
~El Diente to Mt. Wilson Link up
Feeling wild? This epic skywalk of a day will satisfy even the wiliest of adventurer. Without a doubt, the most direct and ambitious way to top out on these two challenging 14ers.
~Technical summits
Although not quite at 14,000 feet, these gems of the Rocky Mountains should not be missed nor underestimated in their splendor and challenge.

Big Lines Base Camp
Wilderness ski touring trips are real fun! No phones, no WiFi, no cars, no helis, no pressure. Plenty of solitude and big terrain. TMG has put together several superb overnight itineraries in a remote corner of our backyard range. Spend a few nights in a stocked cabin with local food and spirits on the menu and a couple nights base camp bivy glamping (perhaps not as luxurious as it sounds). Arrive at base camp with a shooting gallery of big terrain at your front door. The guide crew has pre-run and set up everything you need and nothing you don’t. A wood stove heated tipi-tent great room and kitchen welcomes, with sleeping tent pods orbiting about like a constellation of good times. Go climb to the top of a big line. Ski it. Eat good food, party, bon fire, tell stories, star gaze, sleep, eat and repeat. We have single night, on up to five night itineraries. This allows for deeper exploration and high quality celebration (two of our favorite things). You may never want to return to civilization!

The rugged San Juan Mountains are a compact and steep range known for light powder, well spaced trees, mellow meadows, big faces and hidden couloirs. But, the snow pack is tricky and it's not easy to dial in the terrain and timing. Telluride Mountain Guides spend the winter tracking which lines are in and which lines are out. This local knowledge is an invaluable resource when your days in town are limited.
